I mean show the the ‘Exploration scenarios that were part of Interplay’s ‘Starfleet Academy’ or ‘Klingon Academy’ and show me the ‘Exploration’ campaign track in ‘Starfleet Command or SFC2 or SFC3.)Īgain, I LOVE TOS (and to a lesser degree TNG) – but to do understand that what was shown on the episodes wouldn’t translate well into a PC game – and so do the developers of said games over the years.It sounds like you're at the precipus where the promotion is imminent, but the actual points are just shy of it registering. Unfortunately these paradigms don’t really translate to interesting MMO gameplay (or single player gameplay. The only thing TNG often added to the above equation was 40+ minutes of meaningless technobabble discussion (or preaching if it was a ‘social’ piece) followed by Data/Geordi releasing the main Deflector to emit the ‘Particle of the Week’ to ‘fix’ the issue in the last 5 minutes (and again if a social piece – Picard’s preaching was found to be the ultimate ‘correct’ solution to the social issue that was the episode’s focus.) That said, even I realize MANY times the episode started out with the ‘We are here to Explore, Map, etc.” BUT then the ‘plot complication popped up that WOULD be the actual focus of the entire episode and had little to do with ‘Exploration’. So strap on a phaser and get ready to take on the Iconians – it’s a fight that’s been a long time coming.
